ABOUT WACK
The Windber Area Community Kitchen (WACK for short) is located in the Windber Calvary United Methodist Church. It was an idea in the making for about two years. In 2009 a small group of volunteers came together and vision became reality.
It is a non-profit 501 (c)(3), non-denominational community organization which provides healthy, home-cooked meals without regard to sex, religion, race, creed, ethnic background, or economic status. Our mission is to feed both body and soul.
The meals are prepared and served by local churches, groups, organizations, and/or individual volunteers. We currently serve the last Saturday of every month at Windber Calvary from 4:00 to 6:00. (**Lew still needs to get back to us with the 2012 schedule*) Our average attendance is anywhere between 80 to 120 people.
Our door is open to everyone who comes. Donations are accepted, but not expected.
We believe it is important for people to feel the warmth, kindness, and understanding of others. Our presence may provide that little bit of needed compassion for someone. The kitchen is the place in the home where people gather with family and we want our guests to have those same feelings about our kitchen. We know that we who serve are abundantly blessed and receive so much in return!
We exist solely on donations and our annual fund-raiser, the Red Rose Ball, which is held in February around Valentine's Day.
We invite everyone to come and share a meal with us and see what we're all about!
We serve on the last Saturday of each month at Windber Calvary from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m.
Starting March 26, we will serve dinner from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
